Language Testing

testing is a device to reinforce learning  and to motivate learners or as a means of assesing the learners' performances in the language they are learning. as language teaching commonly aims at developing the communicative comptence and performance of the learners, a language should also measure the learners comunicative competence and communicative performance.
teachers' deviation
-some teachers treat their test as a punishment, construct the test to trap the students into giving an incorect answer, the test donot reflect accurately the teaching took place, the teacher do not return the students' paper test as feedback to give them corrections.
criteria of the test....validity-is the extent to which it measures what is supposed to measure and nothing else.the test must provide a true measure of the particular skill which its intended to measure...reliability-has to do with accuracy of measurement, consistency, dependability or fairness of scores resulting from administration of a particular examination.....discrimination-a good test is its capacity to discriminate among the different learners and to reflect teh differences in the performances of teh individuals in the group...administration-a test must practicable, must be fairly straight forward to administer.
types of language test
-objective/subjective test,-direct/indirect tests,-discretepoints/integrative tests, aptitude.achievement and proviciency tests, criterion referenced/norm referenced tests, sped test/power test,other test categories

test validity
-face validity=item looks right to other testers, teachers, moderators and testees
-content validity=the test should be constructed and contain the representative of the course.
construct validity=assumes the existance of a certain learning theories
-concurrent validity=score of two different tests are then correlated
-predictive=
-response=intended to describe the extend to which examinees responded in the manner expected by the test developer

kind of test
a.achiementest(measure how much of a language someone has learned with refference to particular course of study),progresstest(measure the extent to which the students have mastered certain material tought in the classroom),proviciency test(measure how much of a language someone has learned),placement test(designed to place at an appropriate level in a program),diagnostic test(using to identifying student's strength and weakness), language aptitude test(design to measure the students' probable performance in a foreign language),portofolio(used for educatiobnal assesment must offer more than a show case for student product)
